Zhao Buyou, an ordinary clerk at the Dali Temple, yearns for a plain and uneventful life, while his wife Wen Yue harbors a dream of buying land and building a house.
However, a twist of fate unexpectedly draws the family into the shocking Plum Blossom Boat Case, which turns their lives upside down. Amid the turmoil, Zhao Buyou, Wen Yue and their family each show their strengths, and join forces with Gu Zhen (played by Zhou Yiwei), the patrol envoy of Kaifeng Prefecture, to solve a series of bizarre cases. Like figures in a painting, Zhao Buyou, Wen Yue and their family search for clues in this historical scroll, pursue the truth through layers of mist, and strive to safeguard the peace and justice of this prosperous age.
