Happy New Year!
With the theme “Fortune Tiger Celebrates the New Year, Joy and Auspiciousness”, the 2022 Spring Festival Gala staged a festive melody for a new journey, maintaining a warm and lively tone. Featuring innovative and exquisite art performances, it emotionally reflected major themes including the Centenary of the Communist Party of China, rural revitalization, ecological civilization, the Winter Olympics, and China’s aerospace industry. The gala blended profound Chinese cultural heritage with contemporary aesthetic pursuits, emphasizing the deep integration of technology and art, delivering a joyful, graceful, stunning, and touching cultural feast to Chinese audiences worldwide. EXCO Vision Apollo Series displays deliver authentic color reproduction and are equipped with dual backup for power and signals, avoiding signal loss or power failure risks common in traditional LED screens for studio broadcasts. With outstanding performance and reliable quality, they ensured the smooth airing of the gala.

720° Immersive Experience
The gala used LED screens to build a 720° dome space, integrating the auditorium and main stage into one cohesive scene. The LED screens formed a highly extensible 3D broadcast space, breaking spatial limits and redefining the traditional audience–performance relationship.

Guided by the goal of integrating innovation in “technology & content, technology & art”, the 2022 gala production team continuously advanced design and production. XR virtual visual technology transcended time and space constraints, letting audiences experience the beauty of merged technology and art.
In the early creative stage of XR for the gala, the XR team set the principle of “smart use of XR”. For the dance performance “Only This Green is Green”, instead of 3D-rendering “A Thousand Li of Rivers and Mountains” as a full-stage backdrop in traditional fashion, the creative team designed a gently rippling water surface in the foreground. Using next‑generation engine technical art, it reflected the entire spatial environment in real time, making the elegant dance itself the core XR content. The XR visuals were subtly integrated into the performance: clean and minimalist yet harmoniously unifying heaven and humanity. Only in the final scene did a faint outline of “A Thousand Li of Rivers and Mountains” appear in the foreground, making dancers seem to step into the painting and become part of it.

In the children’s program “Star Dream”, the venue was transformed into an immersive virtual universe. Cosmic elements—stars, nebulae, galaxies, star rivers, and planets—spread outward from the auditorium, layered to cover the audience and all open distant backgrounds, enhancing spatial depth during jib camera movements. Beyond environmental atmosphere, two interactive XR elements were designed: feathers and space station. Feathers fell in sync with the solo dancer; the space station flew in rhythm with the narration, making XR a vital part of the program’s narrative.
