Turn years into songs,
leave them in mountains and rivers.
Still in his signature dark outfit, a low-brimmed baseball cap, a guitar, and a standing microphone—
60-year-old Cui Jian returns to the public eye, still a rock musician as always.

On April 15, Cui Jian held his first online concert on WeChat Channels titled “Keep Wilding”. The show started at 8:00 PM, opening with The Stayers and closing with Let Me Wild On The Snow. By the end of the performance at 22:46, the live stream had 38.421 million views and a popularity index of 4.72 million. Viewers flooded the comment section with their locations across China.
Later, Cui Jian had a conversation with host Dou Wentao. Near the end of the talk, likes exceeded 100 million, meeting the threshold for an encore. When Dou noted the “online users” hit 43 million, Cui Jian immediately clarified: “It’s 43 million views, not concurrent viewers.” He performed three more encores, and the show ended near midnight with a total of 44.681 million views.
Keep Wilding
Hopes Never Die
Though promoted as “Cui Jian’s first online concert”, the description is not precise—he previously held an online concert with JD Live during 2020’s 618 Shopping Festival. This time, “Keep Wilding” marked his first vertical-screen online concert.
Many fans were unused to the vertical format; some commented “vertical screen is bad!” or “the vertical screen can’t contain Cui Jian’s roar”. Yet the stage design was thoughtful: a 3‑tier vertical layout surrounded by large LED screens on three sides, combined with LED cubes overhead to create a strong 3D effect. All LED screens for the concert were provided by Shenzhen Tecnon EXCO-Vision Technology Co., Ltd.

His distinctive voice and classic melodies echoed in the compact studio, reaching millions beyond mobile screens through a live streaming system new to Cui Jian.
More and more artists are embracing online concerts—Mayday, Stefanie Sun, and Rene Liu have all drawn massive attention. Amid sporadic COVID-19 outbreaks, online concerts have become a new way for fans to gather.
Alongside live online shows, virtual concerts are emerging as another frontier. The trend began overseas: in early 2020, Travis Scott’s concert in Fortnite drew 12.3 million concurrent viewers and 45.8 million total views. Chinese platforms have followed suit; for example, iQIYI launched THE9’s immersive “Virtual City” virtual concert last March.
Today, the integration of LED displays with the metaverse for virtual performances is becoming a key direction for online music shows.
